Column PA Speakers Compared: QSC KC12, Mackie SRM-Flex, JBL EON ONE MK2 and PRX ONE, EV EVOLVE, RCF EVOX

Pick the JBL EON ONE MK2 if you need to play where there is no outlet, since it runs on a swappable battery. Pick the Mackie SRM-Flex or the Electro-Voice EVOLVE 30M for light setups with a built-in mixer in small rooms. Step up to a 12-inch column like the EVOLVE 50M, RCF EVOX J9 or JMIX-9, or JBL PRX ONE for weddings and quinceañeras, and look at the QSC KC12 when you want the widest listed coverage and the most listed power in this group.

Why DJs pick a column

A column PA is a subwoofer base with a tall, thin speaker array on top. It sets up in minutes, looks clean in a ballroom or a backyard, and spreads sound wide so the people in front are not blasted while the back of the room still hears it.

Most columns here also have a mixer built in, so a mic and a laptop or controller plug straight into the system. We are an authorized dealer for QSC and Mackie, and everything in this post is on our listings for pickup in South Gate.

Side by side

This table is built only from our own product listings. Where a listing does not state a spec, the cell says so instead of guessing.

Power numbers are listed different ways by different brands, some as peak and some not, so compare them loosely. Max SPL and the size of the sub tell you more about how big a room each one fills.

Small rooms and light setups

The Mackie SRM-Flex pairs a six-driver column with a 10-inch sub at 1,300 W peak. Its column height adjusts to put sound at ear level, its listing puts it at audiences up to about 100 people, and its universal power supply handles unstable AC. The built-in digital mixer runs from the SRM-Flex Connect app.

The Electro-Voice EVOLVE 30M has a 10-inch sub, six 2.8-inch column drivers and 123 dB max SPL, with an 8-channel digital mixer, 30 effects presets and Bluetooth. It is set up for solo acts, DJs and small events.

The JBL EON ONE MK2 is the battery pick. A swappable 97.2 Wh battery gives about 6 hours of play, and the 5-channel mixer has phantom power on two channels, Lexicon reverb and dbx feedback suppression. For a park, a beach or a backyard with no outlet, this is the one on the list built for it.

Weddings and quinceañeras: the 12-inch columns

The RCF EVOX J8 puts eight 2-inch drivers over a 12-inch sub, with 128 dB max SPL, and the whole system weighs 44.5 lb. Its listing shows inputs and outputs but no built-in mixer, so plan on mixing from your controller or a separate mixer.

The Electro-Voice EVOLVE 50 and EVOLVE 50M both use a 12-inch sub and eight 3.5-inch drivers at 127 dB. The 50M listing adds an 8-channel digital mixer and Bluetooth, and two 50Ms can be linked over Ethernet.

The RCF EVOX J9 is a true three-way column with a compression driver and 130 dB max SPL. The EVOX JMIX-9 is the same system with an 8-channel digital mixer, app control and Bluetooth 5.3. The JBL PRX ONE also reaches 130 dB, with twelve 2.5-inch drivers and a 7-channel mixer designed by Soundcraft.

The most listed power: QSC KC12

The QSC KC12 is a three-way column with a 12-inch sub, two 4-inch mids and a 1-inch compression driver. Its listing puts it at 3,000 W peak, 132 dB and 145 degrees of horizontal coverage, the widest in the table. Bluetooth with True Wireless Stereo links two units, and the LCD makes presets quick.

Wide coverage matters in a hall where guests sit on both sides of the dance floor. A narrower column aimed down the middle can leave the side tables quiet.

Bigger rooms

For halls and bigger events, our listings go up from there. The RCF EVOX J11 reaches 132 dB at 3,500 W peak with a 12-inch sub and weighs 63.9 lb. The RCF EVOX 12 and EVOX V15 move to 15-inch woofers, and the Electro-Voice EVOLVE 70 uses a 15-inch sub. The Electro-Voice EVOLVE 90 has an 18-inch sub, 134 dB max SPL and a range down to 28 Hz, and weighs about 98 lb.

Bigger systems need more hands and more space in the car, so tell Joe how you load in before you pick one.

How to choose, and how to get one

Start with the room and the crowd, then whether you need a mixer built in, then whether there is power where you play. Bring the details to the counter and Joe will walk you through the ones on the floor. Hearing two columns side by side settles it faster than any table.
