Toyota car audio, CarPlay and remote start

Toyotas run forever, so the stereo usually quits being fun long before the truck does. We upgrade Tacomas, Tundras, Camrys, RAV4s and Corollas in our South Gate bay, and we keep the factory features you actually use.

What we see in Toyotas

Tacomas and Tundras are the trucks we see most. Right behind them are Camrys, RAV4s and Corollas that people drive every day on the 710 and the 105.

The big question is always the same. Does your Toyota have the JBL system or the base system? Many Toyotas offer JBL on certain trims, and it changes the whole plan. A JBL setup usually runs a factory amplifier, so a new radio or new speakers have to work with that amp, or around it. We check that first, before anyone spends a dime.

Radios and factory screens

On a lot of older Tacomas, Camrys and Corollas, a new CarPlay or Android Auto receiver is a clean swap with the right dash kit and harness. On newer Toyotas with a large factory screen built into the dash, replacing the screen is often not the smart move. In those, we usually keep the screen and upgrade the sound around it.

When we do swap the radio, an integration module like iDatalink Maestro can keep steering-wheel controls and, on many vehicles, the factory backup camera. Whether it applies depends on the year.

Toyota owners also ask about keeping Bluetooth calls working through the factory mic. On many swaps we can, and on some we add a new mic. We tell you which before the job starts.

Speakers, subs and remote start

Factory Toyota speakers are built to a price. A set of JL Audio or Alpine components up front makes a big difference, even on factory power. Add a compact amp and it wakes up.

For bass, a Tundra CrewMax or a Tacoma double cab often has room for a loaded enclosure behind or under the rear seat. In a RAV4 or Camry, a compact under-seat sub or a small box in the trunk keeps your cargo space. On JBL-equipped trucks, a signal processor like the JL Audio FiX helps clean up the factory signal before it hits a new amp.

Remote start is huge here in summer. Many newer Toyotas are push-to-start with a smart key, which needs the right bypass module and programming. Viper is the only remote start brand we install.
