Pioneer DJ Mixers Compared: DJM-250MK2, DJM-450, DJM-S7, DJM-S11, DJM-A9, DJM-V10 and AlphaTheta

Pick the DJM-250MK2 for a first club-style mixer with a built-in sound card and DVS, or the DJM-450 for club-mixer effects in a small booth. Pick the DJM-S7 or DJM-S11 if you scratch: both are two-channel battle mixers with the Magvel Fader Pro. Pick the four-channel DJM-A9 for a club-standard booth, and the DJM-V10, AlphaTheta DJM-V5 or EUPHONIA if you want deep sound shaping or rotary-style long blends.

What a DJ mixer adds to a setup

A controller has a mixer built in. A separate DJ mixer is what you add when you play turntables or media players, or when you want a club layout, better effects and more inputs. It sits in the middle of the booth, and every deck plugs into it.

Every mixer here is on our listings. We are an authorized Pioneer DJ dealer, and Joe works the DJ counter.

Side by side

This table is built only from our own product listings. Where a listing does not state a spec, the cell says so instead of guessing.

Channel count is the first thing to match: two channels covers two turntables or two players, four or more covers bigger setups and back-to-back sets.

Two-channel starters: DJM-250MK2 and DJM-450

The DJM-250MK2 is a compact two-channel mixer with a built-in USB sound card for recording mixes and rekordbox DVS support for control vinyl. It has Magvel faders, a 3-band isolator EQ per channel, the Sound Color FX filter, a turntable ground terminal, two headphone jacks and its own mic section with an AUX input. It works with turntables, CDJs or media players.

The DJM-450 borrows its layout and effects from Pioneer DJ club mixers in a smaller box. It has Sound Color FX, a Magvel crossfader and a built-in 24-bit USB sound card. It takes three line and two phono inputs plus a 1/4-inch mic, and it is about 9.1 inches wide and about 7 lb, so it fits a small booth or a home setup.

Battle mixers: DJM-S7 and DJM-S11

Both are two-channel scratch mixers for Serato DJ Pro and rekordbox with the Magvel Fader Pro crossfader. The DJM-S7 has eight large performance pads per channel with Combo Pad mode, 22 Beat FX with large FX levers, an OLED display, a Bluetooth input and dual USB-A ports for back-to-back sets.

The DJM-S11 adds a 4.3-inch touch display for effects and layouts and Deck 3/4 control for running extra tracks in live mashups. Its 22 onboard effects include Helix and channel fader pitch, and two USB-B ports handle back-to-back sets. Joe can help you set either one up with Serato.

Four channels and up: DJM-A9, DJM-V5, DJM-V10 and EUPHONIA

The DJM-A9 is the four-channel club mixer built to follow the DJM-900NXS2. It uses 32-bit converters and a third-generation Magvel Fader crossfader, with four phono and four line inputs, two mic inputs, XLR and RCA master outs, a TRS booth out, three USB ports, a Bluetooth input and Beat FX.

The DJM-V10 has six channels, each with a 4-band EQ and its own compressor, mixing at 96 kHz/64-bit, with an expanded send and return for outboard effects and dual headphone outputs. The DJM-V10-LF is the same mixer with long-throw channel faders for slow, detailed blends. The AlphaTheta DJM-V5 brings DJM-V10 features to a three-channel mixer for a smaller booth, with six send FX and a SonicLink transmitter for low-delay wireless headphones.

The AlphaTheta EUPHONIA is the rotary pick for house, disco and long-blend DJs. It uses transformer circuitry developed with Rupert Neve Designs, rotary level controls and a 3-band master isolator, and it has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Need mics and live sound instead?

If your gigs are more mics than scratching, a live-sound mixer may fit better. Our listings include Mackie ProFX analog mixers with Onyx mic preamps, Bluetooth and USB recording, and the ProFX10 GO runs on a swappable battery for outdoor gigs. Ask Joe which side your setup leans toward.

How to choose, and how to get one

Count your decks, decide if you scratch, and check what software you run. Bring your controller, turntables or players to the counter if you want to see how they connect, and Joe will walk you through the mixers on the floor.

Beginner DJ Controller Buying Guide: What to Get and Why

Most beginners do well with a small 2-channel controller like the Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4 or the AlphaTheta DDJ-FLX2, a decent pair of DJ headphones and the laptop, phone or tablet they already have. If you want to scratch, look at the DDJ-REV1 instead. If you never want a laptop at the gig, an all-in-one system like the XDJ-RR is the move.

PA Speaker Buying Guide for Parties and Quinceañeras

Pick your PA by the event you play most, not by the biggest number on the box. A backyard party, a salon, a quinceañera with speeches and a church service each call for a different setup, and below we show what we would pull off the floor for each one and why.

DJ Lighting Buying Guide: Pick Lights for Your Room and Your Gigs

Buy lights for the rooms you actually play, not for the biggest show you have seen online. For most DJs that means one all-in-one bar or effect light plus a small fog or haze machine first, then uplights or moving heads as the gigs grow. Here is how we walk people through it at the shop in South Gate.
