Standalone DJ Systems Compared: XDJ-RR, XDJ-AN, OMNIS-DUO, XDJ-RX3, OPUS-QUAD and XDJ-AZ

Pick the Pioneer DJ XDJ-RR for the lightest way to play from USB without a laptop, or the AlphaTheta XDJ-AN if you want streaming and cloud playlists in a two-channel system. Pick the AlphaTheta OMNIS-DUO if you play where there is no outlet, since it runs about five hours on battery. Pick the Pioneer DJ XDJ-RX3 for a club-style two-channel layout with a 10.1-inch screen and two mic inputs for weddings and quinceañeras, and the four-channel Pioneer DJ OPUS-QUAD or AlphaTheta XDJ-AZ when you want four decks in one box.

What standalone means

A standalone DJ system has the players, the mixer and the screen in one unit. You load music from a USB drive, or on some models straight from a streaming service, and play with no laptop on the table. Most of them also work as a controller for DJ software when you do want the laptop.

Every system here is on our listings. We are an authorized Pioneer DJ dealer, and Joe at the DJ counter can set any of them up with you before you leave.

Side by side

This table is built only from our own product listings. Where a listing does not state a spec, the cell says so instead of guessing.

The two questions that sort this list fastest: how many decks you want, and whether you play from USB, from a streaming service, or both.

Two channels, light and simple: XDJ-RR and XDJ-AN

The Pioneer DJ XDJ-RR plays straight from a USB drive so you can leave the laptop at home. A 7-inch color screen shows waveforms and track info, and you get Hot Cues, Slip Loop, a 3-band EQ per channel, Sound Color FX and Beat FX. At about 11.5 lb it is the lightest weight listed here, and it also works as a controller for rekordbox dj with the license key included.

The AlphaTheta XDJ-AN works with or without a laptop and leans into streaming: Apple Music, Beatport and TIDAL, plus rekordbox CloudDirectPlay playlists and USB. Its touchscreen edits playlists and suggests related tracks, it works with rekordbox, djay and Serato, and SonicLink sends low-delay audio to compatible wireless headphones.

No outlet: OMNIS-DUO

The AlphaTheta OMNIS-DUO is the battery system. Its built-in 47.52 Wh battery gives roughly five hours, with USB-C power as an option, and the chassis fits in a good-sized backpack. It plays from USB drives, SD cards or a computer and streams over Wi-Fi from Beatport, TIDAL and Apple Music.

You get 8 hot cues per deck, Beat FX, Sound Color FX, loops, a 3-band EQ, Bluetooth audio in and out, XLR and RCA master outputs and mic inputs. Pair it with a battery speaker for a park or a beach.

Weddings and quinceañeras: XDJ-RX3

The Pioneer DJ XDJ-RX3 has a club-style two-channel layout and a 10.1-inch touchscreen. It plays from USB with no laptop, or unlocks rekordbox Performance mode and Serato DJ Pro. You get 14 Beat FX, 6 Sound Color FX and Release FX, two mic inputs on XLR or 1/4-inch, phono/line inputs, a balanced XLR master, a 1/4-inch TRS booth out and three USB ports.

Two mic inputs matter at a party where someone gives a toast while the MC talks. At 20.5 lb it is still one box to carry in.

Four decks in one box: OPUS-QUAD and XDJ-AZ

The Pioneer DJ OPUS-QUAD is a four-channel system for USB, rekordbox and Serato DJ Pro, with a multi-touch screen, textured jog wheels, 32-bit ESS converters, Beat FX and Sound Color FX, two mic inputs, two phono inputs, booth and dual master outputs and four USB ports. It weighs about 29 lb.

The AlphaTheta XDJ-AZ is a four-channel system with 4-deck playback from USB or DJ software, a 10.1-inch touchscreen, 206 mm full-size CDJ-style jog wheels and 8 performance pads per deck. It adds Wi-Fi streaming from Apple Music, Beatport and Tidal, Bluetooth 5.3 and SonicLink wireless monitoring, with two phono/line inputs, two mic inputs, XLR and RCA masters and a booth out. It weighs 29.8 lb.

How to choose, and how to get one

Decide how many decks you need, whether you play from USB or streaming, and whether you need mics or battery power. Then try the jogs and the screen at the counter. Joe can set up rekordbox or Serato with you before you leave.
