Fog vs Haze Machines Compared: Chauvet DJ Hurricane, Geyser and Hurricane Haze, ADJ Fog Fury and Entour
Pick a hazer like the Chauvet DJ Hurricane Haze 1DX or ADJ Entour Faze Jr if you want light beams and lasers to show all night without a thick cloud. Pick a fog machine like the Chauvet DJ Hurricane 1000 or 1600 for bursts of fog at house parties and bigger rooms. Pick a fog jet like the Chauvet DJ Geyser P7 or ADJ Fog Fury Jett for colored vertical plumes at entrances and drops, and the ADJ Entour Chill for low-lying fog on a first dance.
Fog, haze, faze, jets and low fog
Fog is thick and comes in bursts. It fills a dance floor fast and fades. Haze is thin and even, and it hangs in the air so beams from moving heads and lasers show the whole night. Faze machines are a hybrid of fog and haze. Fog jets shoot colored vertical plumes for a big moment. Low fog stays on the floor for a first dance or an entrance.
Every machine here is on our listings. We are an authorized Chauvet DJ dealer, and Joe can show you how each one looks in the room. Always ask the venue first: fog and haze can set off smoke detectors, and some venues do not allow them.
Side by side
This table is built only from our own product listings. Where a listing does not state a spec, the cell says so instead of guessing.
Output is listed in cubic feet per minute. Heat-up time matters at a gig: a machine that is ready in under a minute is easier to manage than one that needs nine.
Fog, haze and effects machines compared, from our product listings. "Not in our listing" means our product page does not state that spec, so ask us before you count on it.

Hazers: beams all night
The Chauvet DJ Hurricane Haze 1DX is a compact water-based hazer: 3,000 cfm, a 2-minute heat-up, a 1.5-liter tank, a built-in display and volume knob for stand-alone use, a low-fluid sensor that stops the pump, and 7.2 lb. The Hurricane Haze 2DX adds continuous output, an adjustable output angle, selectable blower speeds and a 2-liter tank.
On the ADJ side, the Entour Faze Jr sips 2.2 ml per minute from a 1.5-liter tank and is ready in about 70 seconds, the Entour Faze is ready in about 40 seconds, and the Entour Venue covers larger rooms with a 5.6-liter tank. If you run moving heads or lasers, haze is what makes them look like the photos.
Fog machines: quick, full looks
The Chauvet DJ Hurricane 1000 is the simple one: about 10,000 cfm, about a 2-minute heat-up, an LED-lit 1-liter tank and both wired and wireless remotes, at about 5.8 lb. The Hurricane 1600 steps up to about 25,000 cfm with a 2.4-liter tank and DMX. The Hurricane 1800 Flex adds a nozzle that tilts through 180 degrees and a 1-gallon tank.
The ADJ Fog Fury 2000 is a compact 7,000 cu.ft/min machine with a 2.5-liter tank and automatic pump cut-off. The ADJ Entourage is the big one, about 15,000 cfm with a 45-second warm-up, a 5.6-liter tank and powerCON input, at about 47 lb.
Fog jets: the big moment
The Chauvet DJ Geyser P7 shoots vertical fog plumes lit by seven RGBA+UV LEDs in two zones for two-tone bursts, without CO2 canisters or fire. The Geyser T6 does the same style of colored plume and lets you assign different colors to each remote button.
The ADJ Fog Fury Jett shoots fog over 25 feet high with RGBA LEDs, and the Fog Fury Jett Pro reaches up to 40 feet at 40,000 cubic feet per minute with RGBA+UV LEDs and built-in WiFLY wireless DMX. Both need about 9 minutes to heat up, so turn them on before the guests arrive.
Low fog and specialty effects
The ADJ Entour Chill makes low-lying ground fog from standard water-based fluid and ice cubes, with no dry ice or chiller, and holds temperature for continuous output up to an hour. It is a favorite for first dances and entrances.
For something different, the Chauvet DJ Hurricane Bubble Haze LT makes bubbles filled with haze that pop into small clouds, and the ADJ VF Flurry sprays foam snow for holiday and winter-themed events.
How to choose, and how to get one
Ask the venue what it allows first. Then decide if you want beams all night (haze), bursts (fog), a big moment (fog jet) or a floor effect (low fog). Use the fluid each listing names, since the wrong fluid can clog a machine.

DJ Lighting Buying Guide: Pick Lights for Your Room and Your Gigs
Buy lights for the rooms you actually play, not for the biggest show you have seen online. For most DJs that means one all-in-one bar or effect light plus a small fog or haze machine first, then uplights or moving heads as the gigs grow. Here is how we walk people through it at the shop in South Gate.

Pick the GigBAR 2 if you want a first mobile rig with derbys, pars, a laser and strobes, plus a tripod and foot switch in the box. Pick the GigBAR 3 ILS for house parties when you want color and movement without a laser, and room to grow with ILS. Pick the GigBAR Move ILS for quinceañeras and weddings where moving heads sell the look, and the GigBAR Bridge ILS when you already have effects and want two bigger moving head spots and two washes for bigger shows.

Read itQuestions on Fog vs Haze Machines Compared: Chauvet DJ Hurricane, Geyser and Hurricane Haze, ADJ Fog Fury and Entour
What is the difference between fog and haze?
Fog is thick and comes in bursts that fill a floor fast and fade. Haze is thin and even and hangs in the air so light beams and lasers show all night. Faze machines are a hybrid of the two.
Which haze machine is good for a mobile DJ?
The Chauvet DJ Hurricane Haze 1DX is compact at 7.2 lb with a 2-minute heat-up and a built-in display for stand-alone use. The ADJ Entour Faze Jr is ready in about 70 seconds and uses 2.2 ml of fluid per minute.
What makes the colored fog plumes at entrances?
A fog jet. The Chauvet DJ Geyser P7 and Geyser T6 shoot colored vertical plumes without CO2 or fire, and the ADJ Fog Fury Jett and Jett Pro shoot fog 25 to 40 feet high with colored LEDs.
How do I get low fog for a first dance?
The ADJ Entour Chill makes low-lying ground fog with standard water-based fluid and ice cubes, no dry ice needed, for up to an hour of continuous output.
Will fog or haze set off smoke alarms?
It can. Always ask the venue first, since some do not allow fog or haze. Haze is lighter than fog, but it is still something the venue should approve.
